step 1 - Cut your rope

  • The molten plastic from the rope is very hot!
  • For a 7cm (3 inch) keychain, cut two pieces of rope of about 60cm (2 feet) each.
  • Use the lighter to melt the ends slightly so the rope doesn't fray.

step 2 - Place the ring

  • Align the two pieces of rope perpendicularly, ensuring their centers overlap.

step 3 - The begin

  • Wrap the red rope around the green rope as shown in the picture.

step 4 - The first box-knot

  • Take the bottom end of the green rope and pull it up to the left of itself. Make sure it goes over the first red rope and through the red loop as shown in the picture.
  • Take the right top end of the green rope and pull it down on the right side. Make sure it goes over the first red rope and through the red loop as shown in the picture.
  • Pull everything tight until it forms a neat box-knot.

step 5 - Herhaal de vierkante knoop

  • Take the top green rope and fold it straight down.
  • Take the left rope and fold it over to the right.
  • Take the bottom rope and fold it up.
  • Take the right rope and fold it to the left. Make sure you go over the first rope and then under the second one.
  • Tighten it to get a nice box-knot.

step 6 - Finish

  • The molten plastic from the rope is very hot!
  • Repeat the box knot from the previous step until you don't have enough rope left for another knot.
  • Cut off the long leftover pieces of rope, leaving a bit to melt into the keychain.
  • Melt the ends with a lighter and press them into the keychain to secure them.

step 7 - Finish

  • Attach your keys and you're done!.
